Police Brutality Caught on Tape?

by Dr. Boyce Watkins, Syracuse University

I am not quite sure what to make of the ruffled YouTube video that is now scouring the web out of Paterson, New Jersey. In the video, the woman filming, who mentions that her mother works in the sheriff's office, is taping a New Jersey police officer holding a black man to the ground. The man clearly has his hands behind his back and appears to be restrained.

As the woman videos the incident from a distance, the officer inexplicably grabs the man, turns him around and puts pepper spray into his eyes. He appears to do it twice.

Black News: George Clinton is Broke: Signs with New Management

George Clinton, legendary singer/songwriter and innovator of funk music, best known as the founder of the group(s) Parliament/Funkadelic, has signed on with Exclusive Solutions Management.
His new management Exclusive Solutions Management LLC (ESM) of Houston, TX, according to Clinton, "has been the best management experience of his career." After years of mistreatment Clinton was skeptical to work with new management; however he was won over by their commitment to helping him regain the intellectual property he had lost and seek restoration for him monetarily. ESM is an artist management company operating at the highest levels of ethics and integrity.
Despite his success, George Clinton, the funk music legend, has received little monetary gain over the past three decades from his musical works. He is the creator of hits such as, "Flashlight" and "One Nation Under a Groove." Clinton's smash hit "Atomic Dog" is one of the most sampled songs in history, yet Clinton does not receive any compensation from it since he does not legally own the rights to the song. Clinton is determined to bring awareness to some of the issues he and other artists face with mismanagement in the music industry.

Michael’s Movie is Gooooood

'This Is It' is a final act fit for a king

Believe the hype. This Is It dispels any doubts about Michael Jackson's creative genius.

Clearly separating him from other artists of his day, longtime collaborator and the film's director Kenny Ortega emphasizes exactly why Michael Jackson earned his "King of Pop" title. Culled from more than one hundred hours of footage, This Is It goes beyond the best of Michael Jackson's rehearsal reels. Instead, Ortega - better known now for directing the High School High Musical films than his many other achievements which include co-creating and co-directing Jackson's Dangerous and HIStory world tours, elects to highlight Michael Jackson's creative process and erases any doubt that what you saw with Michael came from anybody but him and God.

In a world of manufactured music where contemporary artists, many with big names, are unable to sing and dance simultaneously, This Is It reminds us that Michael Jackson was of a generation of cultivated and honed talent where practice did indeed make perfect. There was no resting on laurels with Michael Jackson. It wasn't just magic. It was tireless work and effort - the two attributes that aren't often applied to the genius of African-American performers so liberally.

JACKSON FAMILY STICK 2GETHER

 jackson-family

just got its hands on an interesting new book. In it – the author J. Randy Taraborrelli talks about how Katherine Jackson ALLEGEDLY beat up one of Joe Jackson’s jump offs (a secretary that worked for him). But according to the author, Katherine brought a gang of Jackson’s with her to do her dirty work. And that gang included a 14 year old JANET!!!
Here’s an excerpt from the book:

I was sitting at my desk in the Los Angeles offices of Soul magazine, a popular African American entertainment publication I edited and published in the eighties, when I received a perplexing telephone call from a source inside the Jackson camp.
I was told that a young secretary had just accused Katherine Jackson, the family matriarch, of having assaulted her in a hallway of the Motown building on Sunset Boulevard.

And here’s the story that the jumpoff told:
Here’s more:
On the afternoon of October 16, 1980, [Joe’s jumpoff] Gina was behind her desk at Joe Jackson Productions – when Janet, fourteen [at the time], and Randy, eighteen, walked into her office.
According to Gina, “Randy socked me in the face, hard. And Janet was next to me covering up my mouth. They pulled me out of the office – and there was Katherine.
Katherine didn’t waste any time. She just lunged at me and started hitting my face, my chest, anything she could. Then Randy threw me down and Katherine sat on top of me. She is no light cookie, okay? And she was slugging and slugging and slugging.”
According to the police report subsequently filed by Gina, when Janet saw [an approaching security] guard she said, ‘Leave, mister. This is a family affair.”
     lil Janet getting gangster!!!
